The Horn Island gold exploration and redevelopment project is located on Horn Island in the Torres Strait, about 17km off the northern tip of Cape York Peninsula. The project is owned by Alice Queenn (ASX: AQX) and centres on the site of a historical open-pit gold mine that operated briefly in the late 1980s.

Gold mineralisation at Horn Island is associated with an intrusive-related gold system hosted within volcanic and intrusive rocks. Exploration programs have identified a substantial mineral resource within and around the historic pit, with estimates of about 16.7 million tonnes grading 0.98g/t gold for roughly 524,000 ounces of contained gold.
Alice Queen has conducted drilling, geophysical surveys and metallurgical testing to evaluate the potential for redeveloping the deposit as a modern open-pit gold operation. Scoping studies have examined the economic viability of a mine with a projected life of around 8–9 years and annual gold production of tens of thousands of ounces.
Although still in the development stage, the Horn Island project is considered a promising gold opportunity in northern Queensland, supported by existing infrastructure such as roads, an airport and shipping access.
The company also holds the Kaiwalagal project, encompassing five islands adjacent to Horn Island in the Torres Strait. Only limited early-stage exploration has been completed there.
