The Hillalong Project is a proposed metallurgical coal development located in the northern Bowen Basin, about 18km east of Glenden and around 60km north-west of Nebo. The project’s main stakeholder is private mining company Argo QLD.

The project covers roughly 99sq km and targets coal seams within the Rangal and Moranbah coal measures, which are known for producing high-quality coking coal used in steelmaking. Exploration drilling and seismic surveys have identified significant coal resources across the tenement, including deposits at Hillalong North and Hillalong South.

Development plans have proposed a combination of open-cut and underground mining methods, with two open pits and several underground longwall panels potentially producing about 4.2 million tonnes of run-of-mine coal per year over a projected mine life of around 17 years.

If developed, coal from Hillalong would likely be processed through the nearby Burton Coal Handling and Preparation Plant and exported through Queensland’s established Bowen Basin rail and port infrastructure.
