The Grosvenor Mine is a large underground metallurgical coal operation located about 25km north of Moranbah in Central Queensland. The mine is operated by Anglo American and is one of the company’s major longwall mining operations in the region.
Grosvenor produces high-quality hard coking coal used primarily in steelmaking. Mining is carried out using longwall methods, where a mechanised shearer cuts coal from a continuous underground seam while hydraulic roof supports maintain ground stability. This technique allows the efficient extraction of large volumes of coal from deep deposits.
Coal from the mine is transported to the nearby Moranbah North Coal Handling and Preparation Plant for processing. Once prepared, the coal is railed along the Goonyella rail system to export terminals at the Port of Dalrymple Bay near Mackay.
Grosvenor commenced production in 2016 and was developed as a major expansion of Anglo American’s Bowen Basin operations, contributing significantly to Queensland’s metallurgical coal export industry.
