The Grosvenor West Project is a proposed underground metallurgical coal development located in Queensland’s Bowen Basin near Moranbah in Central Queensland. The project is considered an extension of the existing Grosvenor Mine, one of the region’s major longwall coal operations producing high-quality hard coking coal for global steelmaking markets.

Grosvenor West was proposed to access additional coal resources adjacent to the current Grosvenor operation within the Goonyella Middle Seam, a highly productive coal seam in the northern Bowen Basin. The development concept focuses on underground longwall mining, where large mechanised equipment extracts coal from continuous seams while hydraulic supports maintain roof stability. This method allows the efficient recovery of large volumes of metallurgical coal from deep deposits.

The project would likely share infrastructure with nearby operations, including coal handling and preparation facilities and the Goonyella rail network that transports coal to export terminals at Hay Point near Mackay. Such integration would reduce development costs and improve operational efficiency.

Although still considered a future expansion rather than a standalone mine, Grosvenor West represents a potential long-term growth opportunity for metallurgical coal production in the Bowen Basin.
