The Far Fanning Mine is located about 45km north of the town of Charters Towers in North Queensland. The mine forms part of the historic Charters Towers goldfield, one of Australia’s most significant gold-producing regions since the late nineteenth century.

Gold mineralisation at Far Fanning occurs within quartz veins and altered host rocks associated with the extensive hydrothermal systems that characterise the Charters Towers district. Mining has primarily been conducted using open-cut methods, targeting shallow gold-bearing zones.

The project comprises five granted mining leases and hosts an inferred mineral resource of 2.3 million tonnes at 1.84 g/t gold for 138,000 ounces of contained gold.

Far Fanning was among a raft of North Queensland gold assets Native Mineral Resources acquired in an $18.9 million deal in 2024.

Historical mining at the site included eight shallow oxide pits that were processed using heap leaching in 1986 and 1987.

Between 2000 and 2004, SMC Gold mined fresh material from three pits and a two-level underground operation beneath the main pit.
