Dysart East Project

The Dysart East coal project is a proposed underground metallurgical coal development located in the Bowen Basin of Central Queensland, about 7km east of the mining town of Dysart. The project is owned by Bengal Coal and is designed to produce high-quality hard coking coal for use in steelmaking.

The project area includes mining lease ML 70507 and exploration permit EPC 1188. Resource estimates indicate around 96 million tonnes of coal resources, including more than 30 million tonnes of marketable coal reserves planned for extraction during the life of the mine.

Development plans centre on an underground mining operation targeting coal seams within the Bowen Basin’s Permian coal measures. The mine is expected to produce around 1.9 million tonnes of hard coking coal per year, supplying steelmaking markets in Asia including Japan, China and India.

The project received mining lease approval in 2018 and is proposed to operate for roughly 17 years, taking advantage of existing regional infrastructure such as rail and power networks serving nearby coal mines.
