Dugald River Mine

The Dugald River Mine is a major underground zinc and lead mining operation located in North-West Queensland, about 65km north-west of Cloncurry. The mine is owned and operated by MMG Limited and is one of the world’s largest and highest-grade known zinc deposits.

Commercial production at Dugald River began in 2018 following the development of an underground mine and a large on-site processing plant. Mining is carried out using modern underground methods, including long-hole open stoping, targeting zinc- and lead-rich sulphide mineralisation hosted within Proterozoic sedimentary rocks of the Mount Isa geological province.

Ore from the underground workings is processed on site to produce zinc and lead concentrates. These concentrates are then transported by road to Port of Townsville, where they are shipped to international smelters.

Dugald River is a key contributor to Queensland’s base-metals sector and provides significant employment and economic activity in the Cloncurry region while supplying zinc concentrate to global markets.
