The Debella Project is a proposed vanadium mining and processing development located near Julia Creek within the North West Minerals Province. The project is being developed by Vecco Group with investment from Idemitsu Australia and aims to establish an integrated critical minerals operation supplying materials for energy storage technologies.

The project targets deposits containing vanadium, rare earth elements and high-purity alumina. Vanadium is particularly important for the production of vanadium flow batteries, which are increasingly used for large-scale renewable energy storage. Development plans involve mining and refining vanadium pentoxide, which would then be supplied to a vanadium electrolyte manufacturing facility in Townsville that produces battery components.

Production from the Debella mine is expected to support a broader supply chain linking mining, mineral processing and battery manufacturing in Queensland. Estimates suggest the project could produce several thousand tonnes of vanadium products annually over a mine life of more than 50 years while supporting hundreds of jobs in regional North Queensland.
