The Curragh Mine Complex is a large open-cut coal operation located about 30km north of the town of Blackwater in Central Queensland. The mine produces primarily metallurgical (coking) coal used in steelmaking, along with smaller volumes of thermal coal used for electricity generation.

Curragh has been operating since 1983 and covers around 12,600ha within the Rangal Coal Measures, one of the major coal-bearing formations in the Bowen Basin. Mining is conducted using conventional open-cut methods, with large draglines, excavators and haul trucks used to remove overburden and extract coal seams.

The mine is owned and operated by Coronado Global Resources, which acquired the operation from Wesfarmers in 2018. Coal from Curragh is transported via the Blackwater rail system to export terminals at the Port of Gladstone, while some thermal coal is supplied domestically to the Stanwell Power Station.

Curragh is one of the larger metallurgical coal producers in the Bowen Basin and continues to expand with additional underground developments designed to access deeper coal resources.
