Cook Colliery is an underground coal mine located in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, about 30km south of the town of Blackwater in Central Queensland.
Owner QCoal announced the suspension of operations there late last year.
The operation produced metallurgical coal used primarily in steelmaking. Mining at Cook Colliery has been carried out using underground methods, historically including longwall and continuous miner techniques to extract coal from deep seams within the Bowen Basin’s Permian coal measures. The coal was processed through an on-site coal handling and preparation plant before being transported by rail along the Blackwater rail system to export terminals at the Port of Gladstone.
