The Collinsville Coal mine is a long-established coal operation located near the town of Collinsville in North Queensland, about 80km south-west of Bowen. The mine lies within the northern Bowen Basin and primarily produces thermal coal used for electricity generation.

Mining in the Collinsville area dates back to 1919, making it one of Queensland’s oldest coal mining districts. Over time the operation has transitioned from underground mining to large-scale open-cut methods, with modern operations using drilling, blasting and truck-and-shovel extraction to access shallow coal seams.

Coal from Collinsville is transported by rail along the Newlands rail system to the Port of Abbot Point near Bowen for export to international energy markets. The mine is operated by Glencore and forms part of the company’s broader Newlands Coal complex in the Bowen Basin.

Collinsville remains an important regional employer and has played a significant role in the development of the local community and Queensland’s coal export industry.
