Central Queensland Coal Project

The Central Queensland Coal Project is a proposed greenfield coal mine located in the Styx Basin, about 25km northwest of Marlborough and 130km northwest of Rockhampton. Developed by Central Queensland Coal Pty Ltd and Fairway Coal Pty Ltd, subsidiaries of Mineralogy Pty Ltd, the project is planned as a staged open-cut operation producing up to 10 million tonnes of thermal and semi-soft coking coal annually over an estimated 24-year mine life.

The development includes two open-cut pits using conventional truck-and-shovel mining, two coal handling and preparation plants, a conveyor system, a train load-out facility and supporting infrastructure such as haul roads, water management dams and sediment controls. Coal would be transported via the existing North Coast Rail Line to the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal for export. The project is expected to create up to 222 construction jobs and around 500 operational positions. It is based on Exploration Permit for Coal 1029, Mineral Development Licence 468 and Mining Lease Applications 80187 and 700022. The Queensland environmental impact assessment process concluded in 2021, while the project continues to progress through approvals and staged development planning.
