The Capricorn Copper mine is a copper operation located abouty 120km north-west of Mount Isa in North-West Queensland. The project sits within the highly mineralised Mount Isa region, one of Australia’s most significant base-metal provinces. Capricorn Copper is operated by 29Metals and produces copper concentrate with silver as a by-product.

Mining at the site involved both open-pit and underground methods. The Esperanza open pit has historically been a key source of ore, while additional underground mining targets deeper copper sulphide mineralisation. Extracted ore is processed at the on-site concentrator, where it is crushed, ground and treated through flotation to produce copper concentrate.

The concentrate is transported by road to the Mount Isa rail network and then shipped to the Port of Townsville for export to international smelters. The mine was previously known as the Mount Gordon operation before being redeveloped and restarted as Capricorn Copper.

Capricorn Copper remains an important contributor to Queensland’s copper production and the broader Mount Isa mining industry.
