The Cape Flattery silica project (CFSP) is a proposed high-purity silica sand development owned by Cape Flattery Silica Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Diatreme Resources, on Queensland’s Cape York Peninsula. Located about 42km northeast of Hope Vale and adjacent to the long-operating Cape Flattery Silica Mine, the project benefits from proximity to existing port infrastructure and potential synergies with Diatreme’s nearby Northern Silica Project.

Acquired in 2024, the project has a JORC Mineral Resource of 61 million tonnes and an Ore Reserve of 47 million tonnes. An updated Definitive Feasibility Study proposes an open-cut operation producing high-purity silica sand for premium glass applications, particularly solar photovoltaic glass, display panels and e-glass. The planned operation includes mining, processing facilities, conveyors and export infrastructure through the Port of Cape Flattery, with production targeted at up to 4 million tonnes of run-of-mine silica sand per year over an estimated 15-year mine life. The project is currently progressing through Queensland’s Environmental Impact Statement process while Diatreme reviews the feasibility study to optimise development alongside the Northern Silica Project, with the aim of reducing capital costs through shared infrastructure.
