The Callide Mine is a large open-cut thermal coal operation located near the town of Biloela in Central Queensland, about 120km south-west of Gladstone. The mine forms part of the Callide Basin, a smaller coal basin separate from the nearby Bowen Basin.

Callide produces thermal coal used primarily for electricity generation. Mining is carried out using conventional open-cut methods, including drilling and blasting followed by truck-and-shovel extraction of coal seams. The mine is closely integrated with the nearby Callide Power Station complex, which consumes a significant portion of the coal produced at the site.

Coal from the operation is transported via conveyor and road to the adjacent power plants, while some production has historically been transported by rail to the Port of Gladstone for export. The mine has been operated by several companies over time and is currently run by Batchfire Resources.

Callide is one of Queensland’s longest-operating coal mines and plays an important role in supplying fuel for regional electricity generation.
