The Broughton Project is a proposed coal mining development located about 27km north-west of Nebo and about 100km south-west of Mackay in Central Queensland. The project is considered a greenfield coal development targeting both hard coking coal used in steelmaking and thermal coal used for electricity generation.

Exploration studies have identified a JORC resource of around 120.9 million tonnes of coal across the project area. Development plans have proposed an open-cut mining operation capable of producing up to 3 million tonnes of run-of-mine coal per year over a projected mine life of around 15 years.

Proposed infrastructure for the project includes a coal handling and preparation plant, run-of-mine stockpiles, waste rock dumps, water management systems, and a rail load-out facility to transport coal to export terminals.

Although feasibility studies and environmental assessments have been undertaken, the project has not progressed to full development and its status has been uncertain in recent years. If developed, the Broughton Coal Project would contribute to metallurgical and thermal coal supply from the Bowen Basin.
