Broadmeadow Mine

The Broadmeadow mine is an underground metallurgical coal operation located in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, about 25km north-east of Moranbah. The mine produces hard coking coal used primarily in steelmaking and forms part of the region’s extensive metallurgical coal industry.

Broadmeadow was developed by BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) using longwall mining methods to extract coal from deep underground seams.

Mining at Broadmeadow utilises longwall equipment that allows large sections of coal to be extracted efficiently while hydraulic supports maintain ground stability. When operating, coal from the mine is transported via the regional rail network to export terminals at the Port of Hay Point near Mackay for shipment to international customers.
