The Broadlea mine is an open-cut coal operation located in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, about 25km north of the town of Nebo in Central Queensland. The project targets pulverised coal injection (PCI) coal, a product used in blast furnaces during steelmaking to partially replace coke.
Mining at Broadlea has historically been conducted using conventional open-cut methods, involving drilling and blasting followed by truck-and-shovel extraction of coal seams. The coal is then processed and transported via the regional rail network to export terminals at the Port of Hay Point near Mackay.
Private mining company Argo Queensland recently took a major stake in mine operator Fitzroy Resources Australia.
Broadlea remains a relatively small but strategically located coal asset, with existing infrastructure and access to export logistics that could support future production when market conditions are favourable.
