The Barbara Project is a copper–gold development located in North-West Queensland, about 60–65km north-east of Mount Isa within the Mount Isa–Cloncurry mineral province. The project forms part of the North Queensland Copper Operations previously owned by Aeris Resources, alongside the nearby Mount Colin mine and a broader exploration tenement package.
It is now owned by Breakthrough Minerals.
Barbara was previously mined as a small open-pit operation between 2019 and 2020 before being placed into care and maintenance. Exploration and resource studies have identified a significant copper-gold resource remaining beneath the existing pit, with potential for future underground mining.
The mineralisation is typical of iron sulphide copper-gold (ISCG)-style deposits common in the Mount Isa region. Development plans have focused on extracting the deeper resource using underground methods and trucking ore to nearby processing facilities in the district.
Located within one of Australia’s most productive base-metal provinces, the Barbara project represents a potential future copper producer, supported by nearby infrastructure and established mining expertise in the Mount Isa region.
