The Agate Creek mine is an open-pit gold mining and exploration project located about 70km south of Georgetown and roughly 60km west of the former Kidston gold mine in North Queensland’s Etheridge Goldfield.

The project is owned and operated by Savannah Goldfields, which acquired the asset as part of its strategy to build a regional gold production hub in Far North Queensland.

Gold mineralisation at Agate Creek occurs within epithermal and intrusion-related systems associated with the regional Robertson Fault Zone, with deposits such as Sherwood, Sherwood West and Sherwood South forming the main mining areas.

The total Agate Creek mineral resource stands at 15.5 Mt at 0.8 g/t gold, containing 422,000 oz gold at a 0.3 g/t cut-off grade. Savannah Goldfield in August 2025 announced a maiden ore reserve containing 36,800 oz gold for the project.

Open-pit mining was suspended at the site in early 2024. However, Savannah Goldfields aims to restart mining at Agate Creek this quarter after securing an updated environmental authority for the operation.

The mined ore is scheduled to be trucked to the company’s Georgetown gold plant for processing through the remainder of 2026, 2027 and into 2028. (See separate listing for Georgetown gold project HERE)
