Hutchinson highlights at state building awards

Hutchinson Builders has claimed the Project of the Year and House of the Year titles at this year’s Master Builders Queensland Housing and Construction Awards. A broadcast awards ceremony on Friday announced 58 honours for builders, projects and individuals across the state. In addition to Project of the Year for Brisbane Skytower and House of the Year for their Seaview Terrace home in Sunshine Beach, Hutchinson cleaned up across a number of construction categories. They included best Education Facilities up to $10 million for their work on CHSHS Performing Arts Centre in Toowoomba, best Community Service Facilities for the Roma Saleyards, Retail Facilities up to $5 million for Baringa Tavern, Retail Facilities over $5 million for Baringa Retail Centre, Tourism and Leisure Facilities over $10 million for The Fantauzzo – Art Series Hotel in Brisbane, Commercial Building up to $5 million for Atherton Disaster Co-ordination Centre, as well as Residential Building (high-rise over 3 storeys) over $20 million for Brisbane Skytower. Brighton Homes also came up trumps, winning the President’s Award and best Display Home $251,000 – $350,000 for their Kenzie 26 design. Bailey Price from Gladstone was named Apprentice of the Year. The individual categories provided recognition across the state, with Central Queensland young gun, Bailey Price from Darrin Price Constructions awarded Apprentice of the Year, Alyssa Pepper from MATIRA Developments Pty Ltd on the Sunshine Coast recognised for the Women in Building category, and Sebastian Toscano from Toscano Constructions in Brisbane hailed the 2020 Rising Star. Burleigh beach house Bajo El Sol by PJH Constructions Australia was voted as the 2020 People’s Choice recipient. Master Builders chief executive officer Grant Galvin commended the winners across all 58 categories.“From exquisite hotels, extensive shopping centres and epic skyscrapers, to cliff edge mansions, secluded river homes and sustainable masterpieces, this year’s winners have shown just how remarkable the Queensland building and construction industry is – particularly when times get tough," he said. “It’s humbling that even after 30-plus years, the Housing & Construction Awards continue to be the peak of success sought-after by the state’s top builders and tradespeople, spanning their entire careers.” The Roma Saleyards project was among the state winners.
