Multinational conglomerate Hitachi is adding its muscle to Parkway Corporate’s brine concentration ventures, including a planned complex to manage waste brine and salts produced by Queensland’s coal seam gas industry.

The companies have executed a binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish a strategic collaboration.

It comes after Parkway late last year announced it had secured a binding option to lease a 10ha site near Kogan Condamine Road for its planned QBS Brine Management Complex (QBMC).

Parkway group managing director and chief executive officer Bahay Ozcakmak said the collaboration with Hitachi provided a robust framework for joint development of state-of-the-art ultra-high brine concentration systems, suitable for relatively rapid deployment.

“Hitachi’s water treatment division, based in Singapore, has extensive experience in providing high-performance (and high-design-specification) water treatment systems, including for the oil and gas industry and installation on offshore production platforms,” he said.

“This important collaboration leverages the respective capabilities of both parties, by
combining Hitachi’s global experience with Parkway’s process technology portfolio and local
project delivery capabilities.

“As our QBMC-related development plans progress, we look forward to announcing further
strategic partnerships, including collaborations that will support the staged development of the
QBMC project.”

The MOU provides a strategic collaboration framework for Parkway and Hitachi to jointly:

• Develop state-of-the-art ultra-high brine concentration systems, with an initial focus on developing standardised modular product range. Customised systems are to be considered for larger projects.
• Deploy solutions to key markets, including Parkway’s flagship QBMC project.
• Identify additional collaborative opportunities in the industrial water treatment sector that leverage the respective capabilities of the parties to create significant value, including outside the key markets.

Hitachi managing director Ong Yen Tar said the collaboration with Parkway would target the growing need for brine processing technologies globally.

“By leveraging Parkway’s process technology expertise and Hitachi’s extensive industrial capabilities, we look forward to the development of a new modular product range that we expect will transform brine concentration,” he said.
