Hammer drills on 5 per cent copper promise

Hammer Metals has entered into negotiations for access to conduct further drilling at the Ajax deposit on its prospect west of Cloncurry.
The deposit sits just off the Fountain Range Fault in the vicinity of Mary Kathleen and Mount Colin.
It follows reported assay results that confirm an intercept returning high-grade copper and gold mineralisation including 11m at 5 percent Cu and 2.5g/t Au from 24m in HMLVRC014, within a broader interval of 16m at 3.5 percent Cu and 1.8g/t Au from 22m.
The company told the ASX that a series of holes was now planned along strike and from the east to test for different orientations and potential plunges of the high-grade copper intercept.
The drilling at Ajax could commence later this week. That’s when the company are expecting to have land access clearances.
It was pleasing to see a significant upgrade to the preliminary assay results at Ajax said Hammer’s Managing Director, Daniel Thomas.
“Copper grades above 5 percent are rare, especially with the potential relationship of this intercept to a nearby sizeable geophysical target,” Mr Thomas said.
“Given the absence of graphite in the immediate area, the conductor may represent a prospective sulphide horizon.
“The corresponding strong copper and gold geochemistry at surface presents Ajax as one of the more exceptional exploration targets that I have observed.
“Another high-quality target has now been added to our drilling sequence and is a testament to the high-quality work being delivered by the Hammer team.”
The identified mineral horizon at Ajax delineated in hole HMLVRC014 will be followed up with drilling along strike and at depth to determine the potential geometry of the system the company said.
The testing of the EM target zone to the east of Ajax had been prioritised with Hammer undertaking additional cultural clearances and finalising its land access arrangements.
The hole will be tested with diamond drilling with initial indications that drilling will commence once landholder negotiations have been finalised.
