Golding snags $55m ring road contract

Golding has secured a $55 million contract with the Department of Transport and Main Roads to upgrade a section of the Mackay Ring Road.

The scope of works includes upgrading a 400m section of the Bruce Highway from a two-lane undivided carriageway to a four-lane divided carriageway.

Golding will also be responsible for building a new rail overpass, building two new road overpasses, realigning the Bald Hill Rd/Bruce Highway intersection and reconstructing 170m of Bald Hill Rd.

Construction is scheduled to commence in late October, with an anticipated completion date of May 2024.

Golding is a Queensland-based subsidiary of national mining and civil contractor NRW Holdings.

“Golding has a long history of successfully delivering Department of Transport and Main Roads Projects within Central and Northern Queensland and we are excited to be working with the department to deliver this critical project in Mackay,” NRW managing director Jules Pemberton said.

It follows a series of Central Queensland contract wins for Golding in the mining sector including a $130 million contract for mining services at Fitzroy’s Broadlea coal mine, a $1.2 billion contract that extends its six-fleet mining operation at the Curragh coal mine out to the end of 2026, and an $800 million mining services agreement over five and a half years at Baralaba North.

NRW also announced last month that Golding had secured a $52 million rail civil construction contract for the $1 billion Olive Downs coking coal project in the Bowen Basin. Golding has also been awarded bulk earthworks, drainage and roadworks valued around $15 million for the site’s CHPP.
