GII partnership sees ABx advancing Sunrise project
ABx Group is pushing ahead with its Sunrise bauxite project in southern Queensland, aided by backing from Good Importing International (GII).
The company said a $2.7 million investment by GII was being applied to finalise mine planning, environmental and port approvals for the initial direct shipping ore (DSO) program for the project.

‘Pleasingly, we are efficiently advancing through the approvals process, and recent advice from the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation indicates that this is on schedule to be complete in 2027, which is the critical step towards production,’ the company said.
In September 2025, ABx (ASX: ABX) executed a series of agreements with GII:
• GII to invest up to $5.4m in two stages to acquire up to a 75 per cent interest in the ABx subsidiary which holds the Sunrise Bauxite project assets
• GII has an exclusive option to invest $4.8m to acquire a 75 per cent interest in the ABx subsidiary which holds the Taralga and Penrose bauxite assets in New South Wales.
The Sunrise bauxite project consists of a JORC-compliant resource of 37 million tonnes of gibbsite-type metallurgical bauxite at the Binjour deposit and port operations at Bundaberg.
GII has made the first investment of $2.7 million to acquire 70 per cent ownership of the subsidiary leading that project.
“It is very pleasing that our partnership with GII is accelerating the development of our bauxite projects in Queensland and New South Wales,” ABx group managing director and chief executive officer Mark Cooksey said.
“The market fundamentals for bauxite are very strong, and we intend to capitalise on it.”
