Old mine provides ‘tantalising’ target for Superior

A data review has revealed 'another jewel' within Superior Resources' Greenvale project, in the form of the Halls Reward system, according to company managing director Peter Hwang. Exceptional high-grade copper has been identified in historical data and field reconnaissance at the former copper-gold-silver mine, which produced 11,500 tonnes at 17 per cent copper, 5g/t gold and 23g/t silver up to about 1958. Superior said recent work confirmed the host structure and historical workings were largely untested by drilling for up to 2km south of the Halls Reward main shaft; while additional old workings with high-grade mullock samples had never been drilled. Mr Hwang said the site may further strengthen the company’s prospects for an early-stage hub-and-spoke copper and gold production centre at Greenvale. "We already have at least three deposits at various stages of the exploration-to-evaluation journey," he said. "These include Steam Engine, currently undergoing feasibility studies, the high-grade deposit at Wyandotte and potentially the Cockie Creek porphyry prospect." Mr Hwang described Halls Reward as a very tantalising VMS-style copper-gold-silver deposit system. "One of the attractions of Halls Reward, apart from the very high-grade mineralisation, is the low cost and high impact of the exploration activities that are being planned," he said. "This will include a prospect-wide EM geophysical survey to highlight expected conductors as well as a large maiden drilling program. "Relatively small-scale mining during the 1930s to 1950s only targeted shallow, easy-to-access, very high-grade ore that averaged 17 per cent copper and 5g/t gold. "Limited government drilling shortly after mine closure confirmed the extension of very high-grade mineralisation immediately south of the mine workings and the system remains open in all directions. "“Furthermore, during the 1990s, CRA Exploration discovered a second mineralised lode only 200m to the west of the old mine, which can be traced for at least 2km." Superior’s reconnaissance sampling around old workings at the main lode has returned results including 20.13 per cent copper, 0.21 g/t gold and 58 g/t silver as well as 10.11 per cent copper, 0.46 g/t gold and 44 g/t silver. Three mullock samples returned results of 1.62 per cent copper, 14.48 g/t gold and 22 g/t silver, as well as 2.97 per cent copper, 6.01 g/t gold and 14 g/t silver, and 1.87 per cent copper, 5.69 g/t gold and 9 g/t silver.
