CS Energy has begun a $60 million-plus overhaul of Unit C4 at the jointly owned Callide C Power Station as part of its asset management program.

The overhaul includes statutory compliance work, inspections and repairs of high-pressure energy piping, generator circuit breaker mid-life overhaul, control system upgrade, and replacement of air heater baskets and fabric filter bags.

“CS Energy is working closely with our major contracting partner Downer to deliver this overhaul, as well as Intertek, Toshiba, CQ Techs, Multivalve and other subcontractors,” acting CS Energy chief executive officer Tony Bellas said.

“Our priority is delivering this overhaul safely, on time and on budget, so that Callide C can continue to support Queensland’s energy needs.”

CS Energy said the works, running until late June, would deliver an economic boost to the Biloela region by bringing up to 250 overhaul contractors to the site.

This brings flow-on benefits to local service industries such as machinery companies, hospitality, and transport businesses.

It is estimated that more than $13 million will be spent with local suppliers across Central Queensland during the overhaul.

Callide Power Station is comprised of two power plants, Callide B and C, each with two generating units (B1 and B2, C3 and C4). CS Energy owns Callide C in a 50/50 joint venture with IG Power.
