Bridge replacement works, a pipe supply contract and expressions of interest (EOI) for a light rail project are among this week’s construction, civil and infrastructure updates. Work starts on $25m bridge replacement project Queensland Bridge and Civil is kicking off work to replace the John Peterson Bridge over the Boyne River in a $25 million project. The new concrete bridge about 14km south-west of Mundubbera on the Mundubbera-Durong Rd will feature two lanes, guardrails and safer road approaches. It will be built about 500m west of the existing bridge, with safety upgrades also to be undertaken at Hawkwood and Beeron roads intersections in addition to tying in the new road alignment. Construction is expected to be complete by early-2023. “The John Peterson Bridge replacement is an investment in the future of the region,” Federal Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd said. “The replacement bridge will boost community safety, while helping towns like Wondai, Mundubbera, Durong and Gayndah with their blueberry, citrus and Avocado exports to domestic and international markets. Other towns including Emerald, Theodore and Biloela will also receive substantial economic benefits.” Steel Mains to supply pipe for Townsville water scheme Steel Mains has won a contract to supply and deliver the pipe and fittings for a Townsville City Council project to duplicate the pipeline supplying water from the Ross River Dam to the Douglas Water Treatment Plant. “In late September council issued a call for tenders to supply and deliver the mild steel cement lined (MSCL) pipe and fittings for the duplication of the pipeline between the Ross River Dam and the Douglas Water Treatment Plant," Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said. "Steel Mains has been awarded the tender and will deliver the steel and concrete-lined pipe for this project. “The duplicate pipeline will cross Ross River close to the dam and run alongside the river through the Department of Defence’s Mount Stuart Training Area before connecting to the Douglas Water Treatment Plant, enhancing the city’s water security.” Cr Greaney said the council was calling for additional tenders for the duplication project. “Council has broken the construction of the pipeline into two smaller packages of work to encourage local businesses to participate in the project,” she said. EOIs open for work packages on $1b light rail project John Holland is calling for expressions of interest (EOI) for work on the $1 billion Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 project via the ICN Gateway webpage. The project includes 6.7km of new dual-track light rail running from Broadbeach South Station to Burleigh Heads, eight new light rail stations and five additional light rail vehicles. It will also include an upgrade and expansion of the existing depot and stabling facilities, new light rail-bus connections at Burleigh Heads and Miami and supporting works and improvements, including signalised traffic intersections and upgrades, new signalised pedestrian crossings and upgraded pedestrian and cycle facilities. Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga said public consultation had been carried out and design and approval would now get underway. Ms Lauga said the revised concept for the Yeppoon project would include: Improved queuing facilities to address on-water congestionDredged basinSheet pile wall60m of extra berthing pontoons between the two boat ramps “This upgrade will provide more space at all tides for boaties to berth during busy periods,” she said. “We’re also shortening the extension of the floating walkway on the Breakwater Drive ramp to 42m, and straightening it to allow for easier berthing on both sides. The Breakwater Drive ramp will also be widened by one lane on the eastern side.“ The upgrade works are being funded by the Maritime Safety Queensland’s Maritime Infrastructure and Investment Program. Finch Hatton Trailhead plans move to detailed design phase A master plan concept for the Finch Hatton Trailhead site has been developed following consultation with the Pioneer Valley community, as well as workshops with key project stakeholders and experts World Trail. “We listened and the master plan reflects community and industry feedback,” Mackay mayor Greg Williamson said. The plan includes historical features, a pump track, and facilities that will support mountain bike riders including amenities block, event set up area/overflow parking, recreational open space and a connection to the trails. Cr Williamson said the next step was to move into detailed design, and the master plan would provide a solid base for this work. The Queensland Government has contributed $500,000 towards design elements of the project including detailed design of the trailhead and environmental assessments.
