Conference promises tools to take safety to next level

Fostering personal ownership to take safety beyond compliance will be a major focus of a conference in Mackay this month. The Resource Industry Network's 2021 Safety Conference promises to deliver practical tools and information pertinent to workplace safety while sharing expertise to delegates on how to put their new knowledge into action in their own workplaces. This year’s event, March 25 and 26, carries the theme “Safety Evolution: From compliance to ‘my’ safety ownership”. Guest presenters include Australian Barrister John Tate, paediatric social worker Liz Crowe, medical practitioner Dr Jenny Brockis, Department of Natural Resources, Mining and Energy chief operating officer (Resources, Safety and Health) Robert Djukic, psychologist Naomi Armitage, and more. Clayton Stansbie from Glencore Newlands will also join Anglo American’s Marc Kirsten and BHP Broadmeadow Mine’s Kevin Meyer in a panel discussion around a variety of safety topics, which will be facilitated by TAFE Queensland chair Annabel Dolphin. Recent accidents place spotlight on workplace safety Resource Industry Network WH&S Group chair Ian Gray said the safety conference was an annual reminder as to the importance of safety for the resources sector and broader community. “It’s no secret that workplace safety has been cast under a huge spotlight this past couple of years. Workplace accidents take an enormous toll on families, work colleagues, and the extended community,” Mr Gray said.
