Construction of the $41.7 million Isaac Resources Excellence Precinct has officially kicked off with a sod-turning ceremony in Moranbah.

The precinct is expected to be built by 2027 and, once complete, will be handed to Resources Centre of Excellence and Country Universities Centre. 

Resources Centre of Excellence chief executive officer Steven Boxall said the organisation aimed to be a catalyst for connecting resources excellence within the region and globally.

Its focus was on promoting genuine collaboration to deliver innovative solutions for industry challenges.

“We are committed to empowering research and development, accelerating ideas and concepts to commercialisation as we strive to involve our communities in a collective strategy, envisioning the future of the resource sector and its global impact,” he said.

The precinct, at the corner of Moranbah Access Rd and Railway Station Rd, will offer multi-faceted learning, research, teaching, and collaboration spaces.

Features include a mining heritage centre, research and development facilities for critical minerals, renewable energy technologies, and a dual sector learning centre that mimics a university campus environment.

The hub is funded with $39.7 million committed under the Queensland Government’s Resources Community Infrastructure Fund and $2 million from the Australian Government.

Isaac Regional Council Mayor Kelly Vea Vea said the precinct would be a tremendous asset to the region.

“It will provide workers and residents with access to cutting-edge training and technology, helping to create new job opportunities and support economic growth,” she said.

“This project is about building a resilient and bright future for everyone in the Isaac region. By investing in education and innovation, we’re ensuring that our community can thrive for generations to come.”
