Campaign puts NQ hydrogen potential in spotlight

The North Queensland Hydrogen Consortium, led by Townsville Enterprise, has launched a campaign highlighting the growing opportunities in hydrogen and future fuels for local communities.

The ‘Fuelling Our Future’ campaign is supported by the Queensland Government.

The campaign launch comes during the countdown to a Hydrogen (H2) Grand Prix competition to be held in Townsville on May 14 at Quayside Terminal in the culmination of a student challenge.

“North Queensland is primed to support and grow Australia’s hydrogen and future fuels sector, and it’s exciting to share regional opportunities for the skilled workers of today, but also the scientific minds of tomorrow,” Townsville Enterprise chief executive officer Claudia Brumme-Smith said.

“North Queensland is ideally placed to develop a hydrogen industry for both domestic and international use, with incredible renewable energy resources and existing road, rail, port, and gas infrastructure that can be leveraged to support new hydrogen-specific infrastructure.

“Coupled with our geographic advantages in being close to key Asian export markets, and home to incredible minds and skills – our region is perfectly placed to lead this new economy.

“Not only does this sector afford immense opportunity to the skilled workers of today to gain transferable knowledge to build a new industry, but we’re also passionate about sharing this opportunity with the workforce of tomorrow.”
