Explosives firm Dyno Nobel has shifted camp from Melbourne and established its global headquarters in Brisbane in a bid to be closer to its customers and major manufacturing facility in the Bowen Basin.  

Dyno Nobel chief executive officer Mauro Neves said the move made sense as mining ‘skyrocketed’ in Queensland and the company continued to expand in Australia and around the world. 

“Australia, and Queensland, is known around the world as a critical minerals powerhouse, and I’m thrilled to move our global HQ to such an important region with so much going on,” he said. 

It comes after Dyno Nobel completed the separation and sale of its Incitec Pivot fertilisers business last year to Ridley Corporation.

The exit from fertilisers was completed with the sale of the Phosphate Hill operation in North-West Queensland to a subsidiary of Mayfair Australia Corporation this year.

The company’s Moranbah manufacturing site produces more than 350,000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate annually to support mining operations across the Bowen Basin.

Dyno Nobel’s new CBD location brings together 250 staff, including some who were previously housed at the Gibson Island plant, as well as those in roles which have transferred to Brisbane from Victoria.  

The ASX-100 company’s Fortitude Valley HQ hosts a new global museum, featuring the history of explosives and the company’s 160-year heritage dating back to the pioneers of the explosives industry, Alfred Nobel, William Bickford and Dr. Melvin Cook.  

The interactive museum showcases Dyno Nobel’s history as a global explosives maker, including the invention of the safety fuse in 1831 and the patent of dynamite by Alfred Nobel in 1867. 

The office was officially opened by Queensland Premier David Crisafulli on Friday, with customers, government stakeholders, team members and suppliers in attendance.
