Blue Energy in new Bowen Basin gas supply deal
Bowen Basin gas developer Blue Energy has reached a deal to supply Origin Energy with up to 300 PJ of gas at Wallumbilla over 10 years from its ATP814 coal seam gas tenure.
With an indicative start date of 2024, it is the second such Heads of Agreement (HOA) executed by Blue Energy as it looks to deliver gas to into the main East Coast domestic market from the Moranbah region.
Blue Energy and EnergyAustralia signed a similar agreement late last year for the delivery of 100 PJ of gas from the North Bowen basin into Wallumbilla.
Blue Energy said the latest agreement with Origin represented another foundation gas volume that would help underpin the construction of a proposed gas pipeline from the North Bowen Basin into the Wallumbilla hub.

“The momentum for development of the North Bowen Basin gas resource for domestic east coast gas consumers continues to build, following the high grading of this significant gas resource by both Federal and State Governments,” Blue Energy managing director John Phillips said.
“This prioritisation continues to give east coast gas buyers the confidence to secure long term gas supply agreements from this producing gas basin.”

Blue Energy’s ATP814 tenement has been assessed to contain more than 3,248 PJ of Contingent Resource (recoverable) around Moranbah.
In addition to this volume, it says there are 71 PJ of 2P reserves and 298 PJ of 3P reserves in close proximity to the existing gas field infrastructure in the northern Bowen Basin.
