Bauxite Hills delivers for Metro Mining
The Bauxite Hills operation on Cape York shipped 671,934 wet metric tonnes last month, representing a 26 per cent increase in shipped production compared to the same time last year.
Metro Mining said the operation was on track to achieving its 2025 shipment guidance of 6.5 to 7.0 million WMT.
It follows the completion of an expansion project at Bauxite Hills last year, including the addition of offshore floating terminal Ikamba.
Meanwhile, bed levelling work is in progress for the Skardon River channel.
Metro said the low-pressure weather event in April impacted barge draft restrictions due to silt movements in the Skardon River.
This has temporarily reduced the tidal window for movements and average barge volumes by approximately 20.
Work underway is expected to restore the Skardon River channel to its previous draft restrictions in mid-June.
Metro said the Ikamba continued to demonstrate its operational resilience. It had been able to continue normal loading operations in swell conditions that would have previously suspended ship-loading, the company said.
