Torpy’s delivers more high-grade results for Ballymore

Ballymore Resources has scored more high-grade hits at the Torpy’s discovery, with new results including 2m at 580.4g/t silver, 25.88 per cent lead, 10.08 per cent zinc and 8.7g/t indium.

The company said recent drilling at Torpy's, within the Ruddygore Project in the Chillagoe district, had extended significant mineralisation 40m up-dip from previous intersections.

"Importantly, the new results continue to support our geological model, which points to high-grade shoots developed along major fault structures," Ballymore managing director David A-Izzeddin, said.

Truckloads of interest in New Acland Coal roles

New Acland Coal is looking to fill more than 30 new roles in the next six months, as expressions of interest in working at the Darling Downs mine flood in.

The New Hope Group business has received more than 1900 expressions of interest for entry-level and experienced production operator jobs at the mine in the past month.

New Acland Coal general manager Dave O’Dwyer said the number of expressions of interest proved there was a thirst for well-paid local jobs at the open-cut mine.

Sunshine cracks on with Mount Moss revamp

A raft of tenders is due to be finalised next month as Sunshine Metals continues to revamp the Mount Moss site to allow it to process gold from the company's North Queensland tenements.

The company today reported that its refurbishment of the processing facility was progressing to plan, with the plant on track for commissioning in mid-2027.

Sunshine completed the $18 million acquisition of the mothballed former magnetite operation and surrounding tenements from Mt Moss Mining mid-year.

Omega kicks off Canyon-4 drilling

Omega Oil and Gas has started drilling the second well in its 2026/27 appraisal program, aimed at confirming the scale of the oil and gas resources across its eastern Taroom Trough acreage.

Clara Resources (ASX: C7A) has executed the sale of its Kildanga nickel and cobalt project in south-east Queensland to Gympie Goldfields for $1.95 million, in addition to $150,000 in option payments already received.

Rio Tinto snaps up Aurukun bauxite project

Rio Tinto has agreed to acquire the Aurukun bauxite project on Cape York from Glencore and joint venture partner Mitsubishi for an undisclosed price.

Rio, which already holds major bauxite operations in the region, said the deal remained subject to relevant Queensland Government and other regulatory approvals.  

Under the plans advanced by Glencore and Mitsubishi, the project would produce up to 15Mtpa of run-of-mine bauxite ore, which would equate to up to 8 million dry. . .

Yari eyes multiple product options from Arcadia

A coal-quality review of its newly acquired 282Mt Arcadia coal project has identified the potential for multiple product pathways, according to Yari Resources.

These include the production of semi-soft coking, PCI and high-energy thermal coal products, while the company is also assessing the potential for resource growth including five cored petroleum/coal seam gas (CSG) wells.

“Arcadia is emerging as a highly flexible coal opportunity," Yari managing director Courtney Taylor said.

"The naturally low in-situ ash provides the potential for a relatively high-yield thermal product, while accepting a lower yield through selective mining and beneficiation. . .

Jet Zero powers ahead with POSCO joining backers

POSCO International is the latest investor to throw its weight behind Townsville aviation biofuels refinery proponent Jet Zero Australia as the company notches up final development approval for the project.

Jet Zero is also celebrating the completion of a $30 million funding round, managed by Barrenjoey, and supported by investors including Qantas and Airbus.

The proceeds will support completion of front-end engineering design (FEED) for Project Ulysses and its progression towards final investment decision and construction.

Aurukun bauxite project decision delayed

The National Environment Protection agency has set back the date for a decision on Glencore and Mitsubishi Corporation's Aurukun bauxite project on Cape York.

The agency has issued a notification extending the timeframe out to February 12 next year to make a decision on whether or not to approve the project. This extension of more than 100 business days follows a previous extension announced in June.

More high-grade hits from Iltani’s Link Zone drilling

Iltani Resources has chalked up more high-grade intercepts in the Link Zone that sits outside the established mineral resource at its Orient project.

Iltani Resources (ASX: ILT) managing director Donald Garner said the latest 'excellent' drilling results to come out of the 110-hole drilling program underway at Orient included an intercept of more than 1000 silver grade metres and more than 1000 silver equivalent grade metres.

Clara gears up for 12,900m Mareeba gold drill program

Clara Resources has plans drawn up for a multi-stage drilling program at its Mareeba Gold Project in the Hodgkinson Basin as it tops up the coffers via a $1.65 million share placement.

Overall, its maiden drilling program at the Far North Queensland project is set to comprise up to 86 reverse circulation holes for 12,900m across five target areas, all within EPM 13944.

An initial 25 RC holes is planned for 3750m across three areas.

Stanmore to add Moranbah South to coal empire

Stanmore Resources is buying the Moranbah South project from Exxaro for about $145 million in a move that is set to boost its Eagle Downs and Isaac Downs Extension projects.

Rare component failure exposed bad habit, RSHQ report shows

A serious safety incident during a routine maintenance job at a Mount Isa district copper concentrator stemmed from an unmanaged and undocumented work practice, a Resources Safety & Health Queensland report shows.

A sudden regulator failure during the use of pressurised gas sent a metal end cap flying into a worker's body in the incident on January 14, 2025.

The injured worker was taken to hospital with a broken arm, broken jaw and a punctured lung.

'The incident was not simply a regulator failure,' the report released this week concluded.

'It resulted from the normalisation of a maintenance practice. . .
