APLNG will supply up to 10PJ of gas per year to the east coast market for four years through an extension of its domestic supply deal under the Federal Government’s Gas Code of Conduct.

The company said it had already committed about 128PJ of gas to the domestic market this calendar year through existing contracts and had offered an additional 77PJ.

“Australia Pacific LNG continues to support the domestic market, providing essential supply and greater certainty for Australian gas users now and into the future,” APLNG chief executive Dan Clark said.

“The volumes being offered will help ease supply pressures and support long-term domestic contracting.

“This contribution is made possible by teh strength of Australia Pacific LNG’s gas reserves and continued investmnet in supply.”

Commercial and industrial gas consumers will receive first preference for the new supply, which will be offered at $12/GJ, indexed to CPI.

Resources Minister Madeleine King said legally enforceable commitments under the Gas Code of Conduct provided more affordable gas to the Australian market in the short to medium term.

The supply commitment would feed into key demand centres and help ensure sufficient domestic supply to keep downward pressure on gas prices, she said.

“The Albanese Government’s gas policies are working to secure more affordable gas for households and businesses across Australia,” Ms King said.

“These are the same gas policies that Peter Dutton and the Coalition have consistently voted against at every turn.”
