An anti-coal protest including a group of health professionals set out to block traffic at the Bravus Mining and Resources Carmichael coal and rail project today (April 7).

Activist group Frontline Action on Coal highlighted the action involving Health On The Frontline in an update on their Facebook page.

A Bravus Mining and Resources (formerly Adani Mining) spokeswoman said police were notified and the protest was finished by 9am.

“Work has continued unaffected on the Carmichael mine and rail project this morning, despite a small group of about 20 anti-coal protestors attempting to block one of the roads to the rail construction site in central Queensland,” she said.

Meanwhile the Queensland Police Service said investigations were continuing into allegations of a hit and run incident at a protest at the Carmichael site on March 24.

A published statement – shared by Frontline Action on Coal – in the names of two people described as legal observers on the day describes a vehicle driving at banner holders and knocking a woman to the ground.

It said the woman had suffered cuts, abrasions and bruising, and that she had been ‘extremely shaken and shocked that the driver chose to run into a group of peaceful protesters’.

Bravus said it was working with the Queensland Police Service to investigate allegations that one activist came into contact with a work vehicle on March 24 and that another was attached to a conveyor belt using a dragon sleeve device when the belt was energised.

Police said investigations into the incident with the vehicle were ongoing and that no-one had been charged.
