Anglo Coal has received the green light to shift a water pipeline and a section of the North Goonyella branch rail line to make way for Moranbah North-Grosvenor complex mining activities.

A tender process is underway for civil works for the project, which are expected to begin in the second quarter of this year.

Anglo Coal plans to clear and develop an alternative rail and pipeline corridor, establish new track foundations and build the required water pipeline.

The Federal Government recently approved the project under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act.

“This relocation supports the planned progression and approval of mining at Moranbah North mine within our existing mining footprint,” vice president of safety, health and projects Heather Bell said.  

“This approval is an important enabler for the continued safe and sustainable long-term future of the operation and its ongoing role as a major employer contributing to the Moranbah community and regional economy.   

“We are committed to working closely with our stakeholders and the Moranbah community to ensure this project is managed responsibly and in line with our environmental commitments.” 

Leaving the infrastructure in place would sterilise significant steelmaking coal resources, the company stated in paperwork supporting the realignment.
